Fuji Film Competition - Extreme

For someone who isn't that keen on using film, i think i've managed to pull a decent image out of the bag for this one!

We had to shoot an image on fuji film of something that we saw as being extreme or something that defines the word extreme.

I decided on using a medium format camera and pro 160s colour film.

At first i struggeled to think of something to shoot and the best thought was to shoot some kind of extreme sport... not so easy to find, and also im not the most confident person when it comes to using film, so i wanted to play it safe.

I eventually decided that i was going to photograph 'Anorexia'. I used my brother as a model and used makeup to create an emaciated look. I used a tape measure within my images so that the meaning of the image was alot clearer.

Once i'd got my neg's back from processing, i scanned them in and chose the best 3 to edit. I liked the images in B&W rather than colour as i felt that this made the images more powerful and realistic.

I wanted the photos to be grainy and very punchy so i upped the contrastwhen editing.

Competition Shoot

Today i shot the last 2 of my AOP work! All i can say is thank God thats over!

After having 2 models cancel on me yesterday, i had started to panic about getting this project finished for friday! Luckily 2 girls i went to school with stepped in and saved my life!

I was abit 'iffy' about using both of these girls as they're identical twins and i wanted 4 different models in my final images. However as they have different hair legnths they less similar, and the makeup i applied made them different.

Again i used my home studio lighting and 2 backdrops i hand made from a2 mountboard.

Over all very pleased with the results, cant wait to print these final 2 off and see them as a final product =]

Competition Shoot

I have also shot my summer image today!
Again i kept the makeup very inimal but kept the summer theme running through it with bright colours!

I have again made a pink backdrop by painting a a3 mount board!

Heres my final edited image for my series of photos:

I have got more from this shoot, and i am going to edit more of them when i get a chance! =]

Competition Shoot

These are my AOP competition photos!

I'm doing a series of photos for the competition, each of which will be seasonal themed. The images will be in the fashion and beauty section.

I aim to produce at least 3 indervidual images, all of which will be head shots of high fashion makeup.

I am also going to run these images in the FACE ON magazine competition (this is where my inspiration came from), where i could have my work published!

Today i have shot my winter images! - I wanted to shoot a female model with white blonde hair as i felt this would make my image more effective.

I kept the makeup quite minimal, but used a winter theme throughout.

I used my home studio to shoot these images. As i only have a white backdrop, i decided to improvise and create a back drop myself by covering a a3 piece of mount board with icy glitter!

Here are my 4 final edited images:

Above is the first image i will be using within my series.

Collaboration Project - Final Shoot

We finally got our collaborative shoot done and dusted today! SO HAPPY!
Huge weight off my shoulders, as i felt this was one of the shoots that was holding me back and causing my lack of motivation.

After last nights shoot with the makeup artists, i felt very very nervous about doing this shoot as the previous nights work made me realise how difficult shooting in the dark could be!

For the first half an hour i chose to use my speed light and digital camera as this is what i felt more comfortable using. Things started off abit rough, and i didn't like the results i was getting, so i decided to experiment with different shutter speeds to see what effects i could create.
I finally got a result i was happy with... by using the bowens light and a 1 second shutter speed, my camera managed to capture the model still and really brought out the colours of the candles leaving movement on the image.

I then copied the shutter speed and apperture to the film camera i was using... i've chosen to use black and white film as i felt this would make my images different to everyone elses who shot tonight.
I'm going to process the film tomorrow and maybe make a contact sheet! Hope they've turned out okay =]

Above is the only image i was fairly happy with from just using my speed light.

Above is probably my favourite shot from tonight <3

I also really like this shot! - I tend to prefer closer up shots, but this one has swayed my preferences.
This shoot has made me realise that shooting in the dark isn't so bad after all =] ...i now feel more confident in shooting in the pitch black! Its also revived my motivation for photography alot =]

Makeup Artist Collaboration - Shoot 1

Yesterday we had our first shoot with out loveley makeup artists!
Here are a few of my final images:

Above is my favourite image from the shoot =] Very pleased with this one!

This shoot has taught me that i'm not a fan of shooting in the dark! However i've managed to get some okay shots from the shoot so it wasn't the worst of experiences.
I'm now slightly worried that i'm not going to be able to achieve a great location shot as my final image as we've decided to do the second location shoot in the dark aswell =|

Fashion Without Faces: Concept

Last of my images from todays shoot - This is NOT going in my book! Its just the concept i was looking at. I'm going to re-shoot later with a more vibrant background as this background ruins the photo (my opinion).

Again i've struggled to focus on the teeny object =[ (this was the only one in focus from about 60 images!!) ... but i like the colour from the mood cube under it and how it reflects on the silver object... I origianlly set out to capture the image when the mood cube was pink, but i think blue works so much better and my book is very pink at the minute so blue will make a nice change.
