Competition Shoot

Today i shot the last 2 of my AOP work! All i can say is thank God thats over!

After having 2 models cancel on me yesterday, i had started to panic about getting this project finished for friday! Luckily 2 girls i went to school with stepped in and saved my life!

I was abit 'iffy' about using both of these girls as they're identical twins and i wanted 4 different models in my final images. However as they have different hair legnths they less similar, and the makeup i applied made them different.

Again i used my home studio lighting and 2 backdrops i hand made from a2 mountboard.

Over all very pleased with the results, cant wait to print these final 2 off and see them as a final product =]

Competition Shoot

I have also shot my summer image today!
Again i kept the makeup very inimal but kept the summer theme running through it with bright colours!

I have again made a pink backdrop by painting a a3 mount board!

Heres my final edited image for my series of photos:

I have got more from this shoot, and i am going to edit more of them when i get a chance! =]

Competition Shoot

These are my AOP competition photos!

I'm doing a series of photos for the competition, each of which will be seasonal themed. The images will be in the fashion and beauty section.

I aim to produce at least 3 indervidual images, all of which will be head shots of high fashion makeup.

I am also going to run these images in the FACE ON magazine competition (this is where my inspiration came from), where i could have my work published!

Today i have shot my winter images! - I wanted to shoot a female model with white blonde hair as i felt this would make my image more effective.

I kept the makeup quite minimal, but used a winter theme throughout.

I used my home studio to shoot these images. As i only have a white backdrop, i decided to improvise and create a back drop myself by covering a a3 piece of mount board with icy glitter!

Here are my 4 final edited images:

Above is the first image i will be using within my series.

Collaboration Project - Final Shoot

We finally got our collaborative shoot done and dusted today! SO HAPPY!
Huge weight off my shoulders, as i felt this was one of the shoots that was holding me back and causing my lack of motivation.

After last nights shoot with the makeup artists, i felt very very nervous about doing this shoot as the previous nights work made me realise how difficult shooting in the dark could be!

For the first half an hour i chose to use my speed light and digital camera as this is what i felt more comfortable using. Things started off abit rough, and i didn't like the results i was getting, so i decided to experiment with different shutter speeds to see what effects i could create.
I finally got a result i was happy with... by using the bowens light and a 1 second shutter speed, my camera managed to capture the model still and really brought out the colours of the candles leaving movement on the image.

I then copied the shutter speed and apperture to the film camera i was using... i've chosen to use black and white film as i felt this would make my images different to everyone elses who shot tonight.
I'm going to process the film tomorrow and maybe make a contact sheet! Hope they've turned out okay =]

Above is the only image i was fairly happy with from just using my speed light.

Above is probably my favourite shot from tonight <3

I also really like this shot! - I tend to prefer closer up shots, but this one has swayed my preferences.
This shoot has made me realise that shooting in the dark isn't so bad after all =] ...i now feel more confident in shooting in the pitch black! Its also revived my motivation for photography alot =]

Makeup Artist Collaboration - Shoot 1

Yesterday we had our first shoot with out loveley makeup artists!
Here are a few of my final images:

Above is my favourite image from the shoot =] Very pleased with this one!

This shoot has taught me that i'm not a fan of shooting in the dark! However i've managed to get some okay shots from the shoot so it wasn't the worst of experiences.
I'm now slightly worried that i'm not going to be able to achieve a great location shot as my final image as we've decided to do the second location shoot in the dark aswell =|

Fashion Without Faces: Concept

Last of my images from todays shoot - This is NOT going in my book! Its just the concept i was looking at. I'm going to re-shoot later with a more vibrant background as this background ruins the photo (my opinion).

Again i've struggled to focus on the teeny object =[ (this was the only one in focus from about 60 images!!) ... but i like the colour from the mood cube under it and how it reflects on the silver object... I origianlly set out to capture the image when the mood cube was pink, but i think blue works so much better and my book is very pink at the minute so blue will make a nice change.

Fashion Without Faces: Opinions Needed

Another 2 new ones... not too sure on either again... Opinions please? =]

Fashion Without Faces

Another new one for  the book =]

Fashion Without Faces: Opinions Needed!

Heres 2 images i shot earlier... again very very hard to focus on the object as i need a macro lens!
Not sure which one i prefer... throw your oppinions at me!

Fashion Without Faces

I have decided (thanks to a little help from my friends) that the unedited photo on my previous post has made it through to the book!

Here are another 2 of my images =] ...still so bland =|

Book Layout & Image Names

Okay so i've been thinking about the layout of my book.

I want white pages, i think it'll make this type of work look more professional than if they were black...

I'm thinking that i'll have one image on each 2 page spread. The image being on the right page. Then i'm going to put the title of the image on the left in grey type writer font?

I want the titles of my images to be totally unrelated to the actual image... i'd thought about naming them after the person who is in the image but then realised some of my images don't have people in! So my plan is either lyrics or film titles!? ... Not so sure this is the best of my ideas!

Fashion Without Faces

Here are my latest 3 shots for my fashion without faces project =]

I acted on my ideas of not using people and taking photos of just clothes, shoes, accessories ect.

Not best pleased with the shots...i think they're rather bland =|

Think i'll stick them all in my book anyway =] ... gonna shoot some more last minute work today =]

I aimed to focus on the logo on my uggs and to get a shallow depth of field... i managed to do this but i think it'd be a better image if the depth was even shallower. I then used photoshop to tidy up the uggs as they looked abit scruffy =]

Self portrait! This is possibly the worst of all of my images... i think it'd be a whole lot better if there was more going on in the background. Might re-shoot this later in my garden or something =]

This is my favourite image from this set of 3 =] ... the original idea was to get the charm in focus and the swarovski logo out of focus in the background...but i couldn't get the charm in focus properly because its teeny! (I've now added a macro lens to my wish list!) But all in all i'm happy with this image!

New Skyscapes

I'm really getting into this whole sky/land/city scapes thing! Scarey considering a few weeks ago i didn't want to touch it with a 10 foot barge pole!

I'm slowly but surely getting used to the different shutter speeds and appurture settings i need to get punchy vibrant skyscape shots =]

Here are my latest 3 =]

I took this on holiday in spain but never got round to cropping and tweaking it (there was a horrible looking for sale sign on one of the boats that stood out like a sore thumb!)
Everything else colours ect. is how it was when i took the image.

These two images are from the sunset last night! Again no editing with the colours or contrast or anything, just cropped slightly so there isn't as much dead space!

Fashion Without Faces - New Ideas

Okay so i've had a thoight about something else i can include! =] I want my book to be a mix of different things (fashion based) and at the minute it all feels too 'samey'...

Hairstyles is one!
Similar to these:

And just clothes or accessories on their own...
Like these:

Easy peasy right!? SORTED!

Fashion Without Faces

Heres my newest image... NOT at all happy with it!

The original idea was to get my sister to jump on the trampoline with her Cheerleading uniform on...but the shots had too much in the background and i wanted just the sky.

So! I took 2 seperate images and blended them together in photoshop. Now it looks too "photoshopped" =|

These are the 2 original images

This is the final image... its looks stupidly photoshopped right? Or is it just because i know??

Fashion Without Faces

These are my latest 2 images for my book! =] ...not too happy with the first one... it just doesn't look very appealing to me. I'm very happy with the second one =]

So i'm slowly but surely running out of ideas for my book! =[
I think its more to do with the fact i don't know too many people to take photos of, aswell as not being able to think of locations to shoot.
I'm possibly going to shoot more of the same people...and blag the locations. Also thought of doing some photos of myself...that could prove tricky!

Another idea i was thinking of mixing in with this project was photos of peoples open wardrobes as this still links with the concept of what people wear tells you alot about the person.
Also i've thought about taking photos of peoples shoes. People say that in an interview the interviewer will often look at your shoes to get an idea of what you're like.

Fashion Without Faces

Quick update on the fashion without faces (book) project.

I've selected some of the images i took when photographing my friend for her modeling portfolio. I've changed the colours of the dress on 2 of the 3 images so they look different so i can include them all in my book!
I'll probably only put in the 1st and second, i'm not too keen on the 3rd.

Swithland Reservoir Shoot

A friend contacted me about photos for her modeling portfolio a few weeks back, and we arranged to shoot on the 25th at Swithland Reservoir.
I decided to try and get some photos for my book project at the same time (I'll attatch these to another post!)
I'm happy with the results we got from this shoot, especially as i haven't done any location work in years!
If i were to do it again, i'd try to use depth of field more in the images.

Here are a few of the final edited images.
